In Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region, on July 18, a woman attempted self-immolation near the courthouse.
The incident occurred following a legal dispute with her husband regarding rights to their child. The woman suffered serious burns on 70% of her body and was hospitalized. This information was reported by the National Police of the Kyiv region.
According to the police, court security guards noticed the woman pouring a flammable substance on herself near the courthouse at around 4:00 pm.
Police and court employees tried to stop her, but she set herself on fire. Acting quickly, one of the court employees used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. Medical assistance was provided immediately, and the woman was taken to the hospital.
Preliminary information suggests that the woman and her husband were discussing issues related to their child’s rights in a judicial manner.
The police investigators in the Kyiv region have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the suicide attempt.
